Question: I have a Van Nuys DUI court date in a month, and was arrested in Encino last week. Someone mentioned something about a DMV hearing, but I didn’t receive a date for this.

Answer: In short, you or your attorney has to request the DMV hearing, which is a hearing that will determine the status of your drivers license based on the DUI arrest. Generally, the DMV hearing must be requested within 10 days from your arrest. If you haven’t already requested the DMV hearing, I can do this for you. But time is of the essence to ensure your chance at a hearing (and avoid a potential automatic drivers license suspension). Note that your DMV hearing would also take place in Van Nuys. Both the Van Nuys court and Van Nuys DMV office are up the street from my office, and I handle DUI related hearings in both on a regular basis.
