DUI while driving on a suspended license
DUI while driving on a suspended license
Question: What happens if you get a DUI while driving on a suspended license? I have a DUI in San Fernando, CA court date that is set for next month. I know the DUI is a big problem. How much worse is it with the suspended license issue. The cop asked me about it and I said I wasn’t sure. When I Am I going to jail?
Answer: You may be looking at additional charges on top of the DUI charges (ie. VC 14601 driving on a suspended license). What was your license suspended for? Is it suspended for a prior DUI offense? If so are you still on probation for that first DUI? If there is a prior DUI conviction, and one that you are still on probation for, that will greatly increase the potential consequences along with any other issues caused by the suspended license charge. Knowing a bit about your history will help me answer your question with more specific details.
The penalties for driving on a suspended license can sometimes be more serious than the DUI penalties itself, but again there are a lot of variables to consider that can strongly effect the outcome of your case.
Call me at 818-336-1384 to discuss your case further so I can find out a bit more about your situation and provide you with a more specific assessment of your situation, and how I can defend your case. Contact me as soon as possible as there is a 10 day window from the date of arrest to request a DMV hearing to fight a drivers license suspension. This is something I do for my clients as well when I am retained early enough to get the hearing.
