Study shows Male Jurors More likely to find overweight women guilty
A recent study performed by Yale University showed that Male jurors (particularly thin male jurors) showed bias towards defendants that were overweight women. The defendants in question were “pretend defendants” (not actual defendants in a criminal case….thankfully. The study did show that women were much less likely to show biased towards overweight defendants.
There are many studies done on biased jurors in the past. And common sense would indicate that unfortunately, jurors are more likely to find someone guilty if they feel they “look guilty” (ie. a large male being charged with domestic violence).
This is an unfortunate, and often subconscious reality in the arms of justice, but one more thing to be considered when picking a jury.
